Turner has been my inspiration since I first went to the National Gallery as a child, especially his late works in oil, how Venice in his hands dissolves into light and mist. My current exploration is the interplay of light and shadow, energy and movement, of which he is the master. Venice inspired my two abstract takes on the same ideas. His seascapes, full of the strength and danger of water, inspired my “Storm at Sea”. His watercolours inspired “Dreaming of Summer”, an homage to his earlier work such as “Tintern Abbey”. Thinking about his late works in particular will keep me pushing for excellence for the rest of my life.
